jlc creative was established in 2010 in to maintain my graphic designs skills after pursuing a career in newspaper advertising sales.
I have over 15 years combined experience in the newsprint and freelancing industry, encompassing a vast skill set including writing, photography, page layouts and organization of full publications.
My passion is being creative and creating promotional products whether it’s a simple business card to more complex projects such as product catalogues and full magazines.
I started out my print career in Innisfail, Alberta where I had graduated from high school in 1999. The locally-owned and operated publishing company had two newspapers a week, the Innisfail Booster and Innisfail Province. The Innisfail Booster was more of an advertiser with an agricultural focus, while the Innisfail Province was more editorial.
As the editor/reporter/photographer, I wrote and covered a variety of community events, politics, education, police beat and agriculture.
After almost two years in Innisfail, wrote briefly for the Athabasca Advocate as a general/sports reporter before making my way east to Wainwright to be the graphic designer for the Wainwright Review.
I also freelanced and was contracted to do various extra projects for the local printing company, including the company’s Explore Wainwright book.
In 2005, I returned to my home region of Niagara where I worked for SunMedia the Niagara Community Newspaper division as an advertising designer and then finished as an advertising sales representative.
I have worked with a variety of business types, including restaurant, retail, pharmacy and non-profit organizations. Also, I continue to work for SunMedia as a freelance reporter/photographer covering various community events.
